Mr. Deity Snags #1 Top Billing on Sony's Crackle

[composite artwork by moi, your faithful blog host]
On the first day of operation for Sony's Crackle new streaming-media venture, "Mr. Deity" episode #2; "The Really Big Favor" was the very first video any visitor saw! Score!
Normally "Mr. Deity" is brought to you via Crackle's "Funny" channel. (Where "Mr Deity" episode #1 now has the top spot.) All the Mr. Deity shorts, (including the soon? to be available #11), can be found on the Mr. Deity profile page.

Now that the corporate muckety-mucks are financing the deal, is it safe to assume that they will somehow control the release of new episodes? It would seem to me that they might want to bring the "rest of the world" up to speed on Mr. Deity within the schema of the Crackle launch...meaning, it would seem imprudent to jump right out with episode 11 if people haven't seen 1-10 yet. Maybe I'm overthinking this a bit.

The "insiders" (meaning readers of Wingo's absolutely top-notch blog) might have to exercise a smidge more patience while our newfound fans get up to speed. Opinions?

Ditto. Though, with the ability for folk to click on any number before 11, it just ain't the same as regular TV, so it should be a no-brainer to just continue to release them as they are completed - webisodes are a win-win for newbies and diehards.

I'm sure it's on its way. Didn't Larry post a while back that they were shooting last weekend?

Hey Wingo, did you notice that Mr. D's Crackle profile mentions your lovely little blog?

Anonymous said...

ok, here's some more scoop -
we are shooting this weekend. however, the bad news is cause our distribution is owned, they will not be releasing episode 11 for a little while. their plan is to market the first 10, so we will have to ask that you stay patient during our growth spurt!
thanks!

jimbo

and yes, we mention this site/blog every chance we get!

Thanks much Jimbo for the dirt, I mean the scoop from "Mr Deity" HQ on anticipated schedules, probably the number one question here at mrdeityfan. Damn it Murph, you were absolutely prescient on this! Did you come up with that (now confirmed) hypothesis or did a little bird give sit on your shoulder? Come on, out with it.
I'm glad I didn't go ahead and proclaim in the blog like I wanted that we could expect to see #11 before the end of the month!
(...and David, re your comment above; "lovely"... I like that, thanks... but wait; "little"? what the...)

Pretty lame of Sony to do this. Hey, muckety-mucks, the internet is a magical land where people can tell the difference between Episode 1 and Episode 10, and then they press their enchanted mouse button to choose which one they would like to see. Of course someone could accidentally click 11 thinking it's a 1 and then...oh, that's right, there is no story arc so no one could get lost. Why are they banking the episodes again? Besides the lack of internet marketing knowledge?

Does anyone know when Seinfeld really caught on?

Season 4!

Nobody had to "catch up" there. And Season 4 was the first season to have a story arc! It was moved to Thursday after Cheers!, mid-season, mind you, and took off. People got "caught up" during the summer re-runs. Is sit-com history not covered in studio executive school?

EXCELLENT POINTS! I'll pass this one along to the execs. I really couldn't agree more.

Thanks Jimbo and Tom. See, that's what I like about the capacity of blogs: two-way conversations in a public record where things can potentially get worked out. Am I dreaming?

I am reminded of that memorable scene from "The Adventures of Buckaroo Bonzai-Across the 8th Dimension" which goes something like this --

Lord John Whorfin: Where are we going?
Evil Minions: Planet 10
Lord John Whorfin: When are we leaving?
Evil Minions: Real Soon!!

I've been out of touch with Mr. D series and fans for the past week. Was vacationing on a lake located near a small town and had only dial up access. ACK! Anyway, now that I'm all caught up on the latest via this blog... Is there anything we can do to promote D on Crackle? Do points mean anything on the first ten episodes? Or is that moot? If I understand correctly, each episode gets 5 points per viewing and another 5 per comment.
Sigh... I s'pose I could watch an episode or two again via Crackle to help the big D...

Any chance the Mr. Deity crew could start a mailing list to alert fans when the new episode comes out? Been getting a little flustered over the waiting game.

Anonymous said...

The waiting game sucks! Let's play Hungry Hungry Hippos!

I second that idea, though. I hold my breath every time I wait for the page to load.

Just got an email back from the Deity camp, they like the idea of a mailing list but need a little help figuring out how to set it up, any web design guru's in the know here? Drop them an email if you can figure out how to set something like that up.

I think jpb's comments perhaps imply a lot, but it's probably my job here to try and keep things "light and goofy".
Regarding an email notification system. May I suggest you just subscribe to RSS feeds from this blog, from mrdeity.com and/or from the Crackle / Mr. Deity profile page at the following link? Doing so would automatically notify you when a new episode is uploaded.
[here]

Most updated versions of your browsers and email/news-reader applications support RSS now and usually just involves clicking on the little orange RSS logo at any source that provides RSS. I use Firefox as my browser and have the RSS feeds for my favorite sources in the bookmarks toolbar. In Firefox, and I'm pretty sure now Internet Explorer and Opera, the little RSS logo shows up everytime in the address bar and all you have to do is click on that, and plop it in the toolbar. Then just gliding your mouse over them shows you the very latest info. (So, if you haven't, I recommend updating your browser, especially since it's free.)

You mean there's something better than my 386 DX266 with Windows 3.1?

RealWingo (just a fan...) said...

Well Murph, not necessarily. For instance, when it comes to viruses and stuff your 1992? vintage DX266 is probably immune! But I'd recommend skipping that lame Win 3.1 and go back to DOS... type in all your commands. That's computing for real men!

After re-watching all of the webisodes again, I got three words to say...

Worth waiting for.

Anonymous said...

man, is it just me or i we have the coolest, and sometimes smartest fans?
do all web stars feel like this?
just kidding, well, not about having great fans, although it sounds weird to write that.
cause as wingo and murph will agree, i;m just a normal dude....who happens to be in a really cool web series.

thanks again guys

Larry the Cucumber? You should BE so lucky! Larry the Cucumber RULES! Veggie Taaaaiiils, Veggie Taaaiiills, Veggie Taaaaillls, Veg-Gie Tails!

Jimbo, do you have a water buffalo?

But seriously, this is a great series. All of the religion majors at my college, myself included, have become obsessed.

We should develop some strategies to get Mr. Deity as many Crackle points as we can. I think they deserve it. I've been telling all of my friends to stop watching YouTube and podcast episodes in favor of Crackle. Any other ideas?

Dave MacD said...

Any hackers out there? (just kidding, don't try to hack Crackle) *ambiguous wink*

Murphy J. Stillwater said...

I don't understand what my golf game has to do with Crackle or helping Mr. Deity.

I was a hacker before hacking was cool

I can't wait for episode 11. I need my FIX. (hehe)

Our Deity, who are in Hollywood, how old be your name?

Thy new episodes come, they will be fun, on earth as it is in Hollywood.

Give us TODAY our Diety bread.

and forgive us our net crassness, as we forgive those who art crass with us.

For jesse's the power, larry's the boring, diety forever and ever,

Amen.

Dave MacD said...

I think this should work to get some extra points for Mr. Deity: If you make a Crackle playlist of all the Mr. D Episodes (for some reason, I can't find #10) and hit play on it before leaving the house or something (you can mute your speakers and turn off your monitor if you like), it will continue to loop your playlist until you hit stop. Maybe we can help them out by doing this a little bit?

I'm pretty sure that Sony might want to eventually promote the show that they have just thrown money at, so let's not resort to underhanded tactics before we see what the big studio has in store for marketing...

But still, tell your friends. To steal from MST3K, "Keep Circulating the Links."

And while you're at Crackle, take a look at the Family Channel Spotlight. That's my son. Cheers!

FYI Guys....
Since the big D is obviously in Limbo... there are some other wonderful videos out there to entertain in the mean while...
Check out Whatthebuck in Youtube. This guy has the most awesome design sense and does critiques on today's entertainment industry. Hilarious! Red State Update worth more than just a gander. Much of their stuff is political, great stuff. Watch the Anna Nicole Smith burial segment... Priceless

Three haiku about missing Mr. Deity:

The silence deafens.
Where has all the laughter gone?
It left with Larry.

Yes, 1 is lonely,
but 10 seems lonelier still.
Where is Mr. D.?

I know in my soul
that Mr. Deity rocks.
Webisodes are nigh.

Anyone else having trouble with the Crackle website as of recent? Every time I click on my subscriptions and click on mr deity it brings up their videos and then quickly redirects to a bunch of unrelated videos before I even have a chance to react. It happens to me with both Safari and Firefox. Anyone else experiencing the same issue?

Yes, major problems as of late, but that's why they call it BETA...
